Overview of Some
Technical Activities
- By virtue of its technical scope, interest, and leadership;
TAOS is the sponsor/co-sponsor of three
ICC/GLOBECOM Symposia,
i.e. the Symposium on
Selected Areas on Communications (SAC), the Optical
Networks and Systems (ONS) Symposium, and the
Wireless Communications Symposium (WCS). We have
had a long-term cooperation with the Optical Networking Technical
Committee (ONTC) and the Technical Committee on Communication Switching
and Routing
(TCCSR) in sponsoring and organizing the ONS
Symposium, and cooperate with other ComSoc TCs in
the wireless community in sponsorship and organization
of WCS. TAOS also has collaborated with the Power
Line Communication (PLC)Technical Committee and
the new Sub-Committee on Green
Communication/Networks in organizing and sponsoring
SAC Tracks.
TAOS has played a particularly leading role in promoting and advancing the ICC/GLOBECOM SAC Symposium. Our TC has made the initiatives of introducing two new tracks into this symposium and continues to sponsor and organize them, namely:
- The Access Networks and Systems (ANS) Track
- The Green Communication Systems and Networks (GCSN) Track
Both tracks continue to be successful and are attracting rising numbers of submissions. They are also credited for attracting considerable industrial interest and submissions. - TAOS contributes to numerous external ComSoc-sponsored conferences and provides TPC members thereto. Samples of the most recent sponsorships in this regards include: ITU 2011, 2011 NIST-ATIS-Telcordia Synchronization workshop, ONDM 2011, HONET 2011, FITCE 2012, and others
- TAOS promotes and sponsors special issues of leading ComSoc publications, the most recent of which is Special IEEE Communications Magazine section on Synchronization over Ethernet and IP in Next Generation Networks (Feb. 2011)
- TAOS has launched a Best Readings project in the area of Broadband Access. Project is underway and close to completion. Details will be posted soon.
- TAOS membership has contributed, and continues to contribute,
several ComSoc officers and leaders in numerous areas including, but
not limited to:
- Board of Governors (e.g. S. Bregni)
- Directorship of Magazines (e.g. Steve Gorshe)
- Education Board (e.g. S. Bregni, T. El-Bawab, and M. Devetsikiotis)
- GLOBECOM/ICC Technical Committee- GITC (e.g. S. Bregni and M. Devetsikiotis)
- GLOBECOM/ICC Management and Strategy Committee- GIMS (e.g. M. Kincaid)
- Awards Committee (e.g. M. Kincaid), Standards Board (e.g. F. Effenberger)
- IEEE Transactions Editorships (e.g. M. Guizani and A. Bononi)
- ComSoc ad hoc Committees (S. Bregni and M. Devetsikiotis)
- ComSoc Communications Technology News (CTN) initiative (R. Subrahmanyan)
We have also contributed numerous IEEE Fellows, ComSoc Distinguished Lecturers, and recipients of IEEE Awards to our global technical community.
